Biodynamic agriculture

Biodynamic farming not only means not using fertilizers, toxic chemical-synthetic fragrances, colorings, flavors and food preservatives, herbicides, pesticides, (weed killers), chemicals of any kind, instead biodynamic preparations are used. In many cases, the toxic property can harm human, animal health and the environment.

The main starting base is “soil fertility” and “the existence of a connection between plants, animals, soil and cosmos”. Earthly and cosmic forces are optimally used in biodynamic agriculture. Partly because of this, the vital forces of plants and animals can be promoted even more specifically through various additional measures. The characteristics of a biodynamic product are: maximum quality (taste properties, nutritional value) and shelf life.

The preparations used in biodynamic agriculture are composed of plant and animal parts, strengthen the cohesion as a living organism of all life processes for plants, animals and humans. This contributes to the production of high-quality nutrition for body and mind.

Biodynamic agriculture it originated at the beginning of the twentieth century, when the industrialization of agriculture started in western developed countries and organic fertilization was massively replaced by synthetic fertilizer.

In 1924 the Austrian philosopher Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925) explained to farmers on the basis of research and observation that synthetic nitrogen fertilization has a negative influence on the soil quality and which natural principles and cultivation methods ensure the maintenance and enrichment of the soil and biodiversity. In addition to biodynamic agriculture, Rudolf Steiner is the source of inspiration and person behind an education system (Waldorf-Steiner school), medical anthroposophy and Eurythmy (exercise therapy).

The Eco label “Demeter” (from the Greek goddess of the harvest), is the internationally recognized orange logo, used for certification of biodynamic products.
